Tibi's Smallest Collection Ever
The 2024 Capsule is the micro edit with a macro impact, dissected on this week's episode of Style Class.
14 styles! (20 if you’re counting individual colorways). That’s the total number of pieces in Tibi’s capsule. While we love experimentation for curiosity’s sake, this is not a case of throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks. In fact, everything about this collection was deeply intentional. When you’re an independently-run fashion brand, every SKU counts (SKU stands for Stock Keeping Unit) and the number of SKUs offered in a collection requires months of inventory planning, risk assessment, and strategy for content dissemination - in other words, how do we make a limited number of photographed units last us through the winter? Or, if the collection is enormous, how do I ensure that none of the beautiful images we create go unseen? Scaling down from our previous capsule collections was a move that - from an outsider’s perspective - would be written off as risky, but from a Creative Pragmatist’s POV, it was not just the option that made sense, it was the one that felt really, I mean really, right.
The capsule should bring you a lot of comfort. Unless you’re an absolute Jedi when it comes to LRP (long-range planning) for the wardrobe, odds are you’ve accumulated or are inundated with a lot of festive stuff that makes you feel confused about your personal style during the holiday season and beyond. Not to mention, decision fatigue is a very real thing - holidays and special events, in general, can be overwhelming, and there's likely a lot more on your mind than just "What should I wear to that dinner at my in-laws’?" Showing up feeling and looking like yourself is a really good thing, and knowing that you’re expanding your wardrobe responsibly (waste not, want not) in the process is even better. The beauty of this capsule is that each piece is hyper-focused and incredibly special, allowing you to captain the direction that you want to take your look. This week, Style class showed us how these pieces can traverse up and down the CP Scale, moving comfortably from highly creative to highly pragmatic, depending on your mood, locale, and modifier.
The Artemis Beading Slip Skirt is arguably one of the most special pieces in the capsule - no surprise that Tibi Brand Director Sarah Brody gravitated towards this ensemble on Style Class (see Sarah in this look here). Sarah leans highly creative on the CP Scale and that’s clearly communicated through her styling choices here.
To the untrained eye, it would appear that this is an almost completely HTH (Have to Have) salad - but the codes of Chill, Modern, and Classic are more present than ever. The Artemis Beading skirt, a statement on its own, almost serves as a palette cleanser here. Highlighting this piece’s ability to function as a dial-up and dial-down tool in your wardrobe, this skirt is the dot connector between the hints of red lace emerging from the chill yet refined Double Faced Cashmere Oversized Easy Sweater and the baby blue feathered-out pumps from our upcoming Resort 2025 Collection (contact your Tibi stylist for more information on these). With her signature cornichon necklace (pickle girls unite) and classic gold huggie earrings, she’s ready for a holiday dinner party.
For those of us who constantly reach for a blazer for event dressing, the 4-Ply Silk Fringe Cape will become your unsung hero when you crave a grounding silhouette but want a different vibe. Amy (see her in this look here) isn’t wearing this to the office (unless she is…do your thing, boss!), but I can absolutely see her swapping her office Liam Blazer for the fringe cape to head to an event after work - looking and feeling like herself.
By pairing it with a simple Fundamentals ribbed tank top, washed black double-waisted denim, and a distressed but ultra-luxe heeled boot, you’re checking all of the CMC boxes with none of the fuss. The key here is maintaining ease from head to toe - every single element allows you to be mobile and comfortable (nothing’s worse than feeling like you’re stuck with T-Rex arms for the evening), but is still elevated and appropriate for your office holiday party, or drinks with friends during Paris Fashion Week.
There’s arguably nothing more classic than a white t-shirt and jeans - it’s an outfit that we’ve all worn once, twice, or 50,000 times. When you keep the codes of why a white t-shirt and jeans, but elevate the components that make up the classic combo, it makes for an excellent event dressing alternative. Enter the Silk Cotton Shirred Neck Blouse and Indigo Denim Sid Jean, as seen on Keturah here.
By adding a sleek Bartolome pump and matching silk sock in black, you’ve instantly made this blouse a PDW (Play, Dinner, Work) champion. With the swap of a shoe, you’re dressed for Sunday brunch, and with a loafer, you’re ready for work come Monday morning. The throughline is maintained no matter the accessories, because the core is inextricably Chill, Modern, and…say it with me…Classic.
Needless to say, this capsule is mindful above all else. Mindful in respect to inventory, in how it’s existing in your closet, in how it’s going to serve you in your real life - for the special moments and beyond.
Always love your writing
