Yes. Otherwise u know it will play to a bland middle. Which to not offend is simply striving for the impossible. Everything ends up watered down and ultimately registers with no one.
The word trope has really hit it home for me. I finally get it- together with friction/ antonym- why when I try to match the color, vibe, whatever of an outfit in each piece, why I feel flat and as if I’m dressing for a part.
Really loved these ideas! And also advocate for myself, white jeans that are looser, perhaps a neutral white vs optic white with a bit of dash/bad taste/fun thrown in.
You make it seem so simple. But it’s not. Your explanations, humor, and visuals are so helpful and bring it all together. Now, it’s time to get in my closet and get creative.
New subscriber here! Have loved your weekly style sessions and this was the first article I’ve read. Exceptional writing/information! I admire your style so very much! Side note: white jeans have LONG been a favorite piece in my wardrobe! Thanks so much for the time and effort you put into educating us! Xo
....such a fun read. LOVE the Florida real estate agent, BEST TROPE !!!! I remember my mother requesting I visit her in Florida "wearing" some colors..... I landed on grey with white 20 years ago
and she knew that's how far I would go. Some things just are.
Yes! There is so much regression to the mean/bland middle/ring-3-Taurus-in-Miami with color and silhouette. It's taken this many summers to articulate what it is with me and the white jeans that I have tried on and never purchased. The wish to avoid the trope voice and feel coming from the dressing room.
Humor is both your modifier and your brilliant way of articulating fashion direction so well (the realtor trope is perfect)! This is so helpful — as I find my minimalist self so often wearing white head to toe.
I actually find the posts where "some may get offended" the most helpful!

I appreciate your breakdown here and the examples you provided that weren’t exclusive to warm weather! A good “rule” to break.
